Our History
Hoërskool Louis Trichardt opened its doors on January 15, 1964, with Mr. S.M.N. Bronn as principal. With fewer than 100 learners and 19 staff members, the initial Triegie team was formed. Triegies have gone from strength to strength with the motto “WAAK EN WERK” at the foot of the Zoutpansberg Mountains. Our current principal, Mr. Theo Muller, excellently manages the school in cooperation with an outstanding governing body led by Mr. Quentin Thompson. Hoërskool Louis Trichardt is a values-driven school where each student becomes part of our Triegie family. Once a Triegie, always a Triegie!

“WAAK EN WERK” (Excerpt from the 1946 yearbook): The motto of a school expresses its highest ideal. This motto provides direction for internal growth and development. It also represents the external objectives of school life and serves as a billboard to announce the goals, aspirations, and achievements of a school. Hoërskool Louis Trichardt, and therefore the Soutpansberg High School, has recently become a reality. Soutpansbergers are proud of their school.
This is sufficiently demonstrated by the great interest shown throughout the district, from Limpopo to “behind the mountain to further forward.” The high school serves the people and will watch over the traditions on which we build our ideals. Just as Hanglip reigns over the Soutpansberg and guards the northern forest world and southern plains, the high school will strive to keep a watchful eye over its students.
We must not only focus on Hanglip because then we will stumble over obstacles we cannot see in our immediate vicinity. We will work to overcome these obstacles, striving for stability of character and mental, spiritual, and physical development.
We believe, as the ancient Romans did, in the motto: “Mens sana in corpore sano” (A healthy mind in a healthy body). The Bible will also serve as a guide for our present and future. We will watch and work.
